THE PROCESS

5-Step Paint Correction

Every correction follows the same disciplined sequence. No shortcuts. Each step prepares the surface for the next. The result is measurable improvement in clarity, depth, and gloss.

01
STEP 1

pH-Balanced Wash

Two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral soap and deionized water. Removes loose contamination without etching the clear coat or leaving mineral deposits.

02
STEP 2

Clay Bar Decontamination

Iron remover followed by clay bar treatment across all painted surfaces. Pulls out embedded brake dust, industrial fallout, tar, and rail dust that washing cannot reach.

03
STEP 3

Compound

Cutting compound removes deep scratches, heavy oxidation, and water etch marks. Applied by machine with appropriate cutting pad. Removes the most material.

04
STEP 4

Polish

Polishing compound refines the surface after compounding. Removes compound haze and micro-marring, increasing gloss and paint clarity.

05
STEP 5

Finishing

Final finishing polish with soft pad brings out maximum depth and gloss. Surface is prepared for sealant or ceramic coating application.

WHY IT MATTERS

South Florida destroys paint.
Correction reverses it.

365 days of UV, salt air from both coasts, hard water minerals, and automatic car washes that use brushes — every one of these degrades your clear coat. Swirl marks, oxidation, water etch, and industrial fallout build up over time. Paint correction removes that damage mechanically before it goes through the clear coat.

Once the clear coat is gone, correction is no longer possible. Repainting a panel costs $500–$1,500. Correction costs a fraction of that — and it’s reversible paint restoration, not respray.

UV Oxidation
South Florida UV dulls and oxidizes paint year-round. Correction removes the oxidized layer and restores underlying gloss.
Swirl Marks
Automatic washes and improper washing create swirl marks visible in sunlight. Polish and finishing passes remove them.
Water Etching
Hard water minerals etch into the clear coat. Compound removes the etch marks before they penetrate through.
Salt & Fallout
Ocean salt and brake dust embed in paint. Clay bar decontamination removes both before any correction begins.
FAQ

Paint Correction Questions

Paint correction is a machine polishing process that removes defects from your vehicle's clear coat — swirl marks, scratches, water spots, oxidation, and etching. A cutting compound removes material mechanically, followed by polishing and finishing passes that refine the surface to maximum gloss. The result is like-new paint clarity without repainting.
A regular wash removes surface dirt. A detail cleans and protects the surface. Paint correction removes actual paint defects. It uses a machine polisher with cutting, polishing, and finishing compounds to mechanically level the clear coat, eliminating marks that cannot be removed by hand or washing.
1-Step Polish — from $499: Single polishing stage. Removes light swirl marks, minor water spots, and dull oxidation. Best for vehicles in good condition wanting a gloss refresh. Takes 3–5 hours on a sedan.

2-Step Correction — from $699: Compound followed by polish. Addresses moderate scratches, heavier oxidation, and paint contamination. Takes 5–8 hours on a sedan.

3-Step Full Correction — from $899: Compound, polish, and finishing pass. Maximum defect removal and surface refinement. Required before ceramic coating. Takes 6–10 hours on a sedan, 8–12 on an SUV or truck.

We inspect the paint under correction lighting before starting and recommend the exact number of steps needed — no upselling.
Paint correction removes scratches that are within the clear coat layer. If a scratch catches your fingernail, it has likely gone through the clear coat into the base coat and cannot be corrected — it would require respray. Scratches that do not catch a fingernail are typically in the clear coat and can be corrected fully or significantly reduced.
1-step: 3–5 hours (sedan)  ·  2-step: 5–8 hours  ·  3-step: 6–10 hours (sedan), 8–12 hours (SUV/truck).

We schedule paint correction as a full-day appointment at your location. If you add ceramic coating after correction, allow 1–2 additional days for prep and cure.
Yes — DShine Details is fully mobile. Our unit is self-contained with its own power and equipment. We come to your home, condo garage, or office across South Florida. For paint correction, we prefer a covered spot (garage, carport, or shaded area) to control lighting and temperature. We will confirm the setup when booking.
Yes — always. Ceramic coating locks whatever is on the paint surface underneath. If you coat over swirl marks, oxidation, or water spots, they will be permanently sealed in. Correction before coating is the professional standard. We offer both in one appointment — correction first, then ceramic application.
