Understanding Protection — Simply Explained

Wax, Ceramic Coating, and PPF — What's the Difference?

A lot of people have heard the terms but aren't sure what they actually mean for their car. Here's how to think about each one.

The Tent
Wax & Spray Sealant
Wax is like setting up a tent over your paint. It protects for a while — 4 to 8 weeks — but rain, UV, and heat break it down quickly, and it has to be re-applied constantly. It adds temporary shine and a bit of water repellency, but it's not a long-term solution. Good for budget maintenance. Not a substitute for real protection.
🧱
The Brick Wall
Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating is a brick wall. It chemically bonds to your paint and creates a hard, semi-permanent glass layer that repels water, UV rays, bird droppings, bugs, and salt air for 1 to 5 years. The self-cleaning hydrophobic effect means water beads off the surface instead of sitting on it — which matters especially in South Florida's salt and humidity. Once applied correctly, it lasts. It cannot be washed off.
🛡️
The Full Suit of Armor
Paint Protection Film (PPF)
PPF is a full suit of armor — a thick, optically clear urethane film applied directly to your paint. It physically absorbs rock chips, road debris, and minor impacts before they can reach the surface. It also self-heals light scratches when warm. PPF cannot be applied on top of ceramic coating — the correct order is PPF first, ceramic coating second, giving you the deepest gloss and maximum protection combined.
🏆
The Ultimate Stack
PPF + Ceramic Coating
For collectors, exotics, and high-value vehicles in South Florida's brutal climate: PPF on the high-impact zones (hood, fenders, mirrors, bumper) followed by ceramic coating over the full vehicle. You get physical impact protection where it matters most, with a hydrophobic glass layer over everything. DShine Details is certified to install both.

100% Self-Contained Mobile Unit

We Bring Everything. You Provide Nothing.

This isn't just a marketing claim — it's a critical technical distinction. DShine Details operates a fully autonomous mobile unit. We require zero connections to your property. Here's what that means in practice.

💧
100+ Gallons of Deionized Water
We carry more than 100 gallons of deionized water on every unit. Deionized water has had all minerals removed — which means zero water spots on your paint, even in South Florida's hard-water environment. No access to your garden hose or water supply required. Ever.
Own Commercial Generator
All our equipment runs on a commercial-grade generator we carry on-board. No extension cords. No access to your electrical panel or outdoor outlets. We can service gated estates, private islands, and HOA-restricted communities without any property utility access.
🏘️
Works Anywhere in South Florida
Because we're 100% self-contained, we can work at locations where standard mobile detailers can't: private islands (Fisher Island, Indian Creek), HOA-governed estates, gated communities, high-rise parking garages, yacht marinas, and corporate campuses. If you can get there, we can get there.
🌿
Clean Departure — Zero Footprint
All wastewater is contained and removed from the property. No chemical runoff into your drain, driveway, or HOA landscaping. We leave exactly what we found — except your vehicle is now protected. Clean arrival, clean work, clean departure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Detailing Packages — FAQ

What is the difference between wax, ceramic coating, and PPF?
Wax is the tent — it protects temporarily for 4 to 8 weeks, then has to be re-applied. Ceramic coating is the brick wall — it chemically bonds to your paint and creates a semi-permanent glass layer that repels water, UV, and contaminants for 1 to 5 years. PPF (Paint Protection Film) is the full suit of armor — a physical barrier that stops rock chips and road debris before they reach the surface. For maximum protection, the combination is PPF on the high-impact zones followed by ceramic coating over the full vehicle.
Do your detailing units need water or electricity from my property?
No — and this is one of our biggest advantages. DShine Details operates 100% self-contained. Our mobile units carry 100+ gallons of deionized water and run on their own commercial generator. We require zero access to your home's water supply, hose bib, or electrical outlets. This is why we can service gated estates, HOA communities, private islands, and any address without restrictions.
What detailing package should I choose?
If your vehicle just needs a thorough clean and shine — go with Essential or Premium Detail. If your paint has visible swirls, scratches, or oxidation — Elite Detail includes paint correction. If you want lasting protection with a self-cleaning effect — add Ceramic Coating in Silver, Gold, or Elite tier. For the ultimate protection, especially for exotic or high-value vehicles — combine Elite Detail with Ceramic Coating and optionally PPF on high-impact zones.
Why does ceramic coating require paint correction first?
Ceramic coating bonds permanently to whatever surface is underneath it. If there are swirl marks, light scratches, or oxidation present when the coating is applied, they get locked in under the glass layer — permanently. Paint correction removes those defects first, so the coating seals a perfect surface. This is why DShine Details always inspects paint condition before recommending a ceramic package.
Why is deionized water better for car detailing?
Regular tap water contains minerals — calcium, magnesium, and other dissolved solids. When tap water dries on paint, it leaves those minerals behind as water spots or etching, especially on dark paint in South Florida's heat. Deionized water has had all those minerals removed, so it evaporates cleanly with zero residue. It's the same standard used in factory paint shops and certified coating facilities — and it's what we carry in our on-board tank on every job.
