What separates a professional ceramic coating from consumer products — and what to look for when choosing an installer for your vehicle.
Get a Coating QuoteEntry-level professional coating. Hydrophobic SiO2 chemistry, UV inhibitor. Ideal for annual-cycle paint maintenance or short-term vehicle ownership.
Mid-tier professional coating with true 9H hardness. Chemical resistance, UV blocking, and hydrophobic performance maintained for 2–3 years with proper maintenance in South Florida.
Highest-grade professional coating applied by DShine Details. Full paint correction included. Maximum UV protection and chemical resistance. For luxury, exotic, and long-term ownership vehicles.
Ceramic coating application is a chemistry process, not just a surface treatment. The coating bonds to bare clear coat through a chemical reaction that requires: a completely clean, decontaminated, and oil-free surface; ambient temperature in the correct range (60–85°F); correct application technique (specific spread pattern, controlled flash time, proper leveling); and a dust-free or dust-controlled environment during application.
Consumer products are formulated to be more forgiving of imperfect preparation because they cannot chemically bond at the same concentration levels. Professional coatings applied without correct preparation fail earlier than their rated protection period — adhesion issues, high spots, and premature delamination are common results of cutting corners on prep.
Professional coatings (GYEON Q2|Mohs, XPEL Fusion Plus, Gtechniq Crystal Serum) are high-SiO2 concentration products that chemically bond to clear coat and cure to 9H hardness. They require professional application technique, controlled environment, and correct surface preparation. Consumer 'ceramic' sprays contain low concentrations of SiO2 in spray-and-wipe form — they provide 3–6 months of light protection and wash off gradually. They are not the same product category.
Ask: What specific coating product do you apply? Are you trained or authorized by that manufacturer? Can you show me the product documentation? What paint depth measurement do you use before correction? A legitimate professional installer can answer these questions specifically. Vague answers about 'professional-grade ceramic' or refusal to name the specific product are warning signs.
Complete exterior decontamination (iron decontaminator, clay bar), paint correction to remove swirl marks and defects (machine polish, multiple stages if needed), IPA (isopropyl alcohol) panel wipe to remove all polish oils and residue, and paint depth measurement to document condition before and after. Skipping any preparation step compromises coating adhesion and performance.
Entry-level professional coatings (1-year tier): 12–18 months in South Florida with proper maintenance. Mid-tier (3-year): 2–3 years. Flagship (5-year): 3–5 years. Florida's UV accelerates coating depletion compared to temperate climates. Annual maintenance service (ceramic spray reapplication) extends protection within these windows.
DShine Details applies GYEON Q² coatings (Cancoat EVO for essential tier, Q²|Mohs for professional tier) and XPEL Fusion Plus for flagship applications. We apply the product matched to the vehicle's protection requirements and the client's ownership timeline. We do not apply unlabeled or generic coating products.
