Car Mold Removal
in Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale learned what a flooded car smells like in April 2023, when two feet of rain in a day put water into thousands of cabins from Edgewood to River Oaks. Most of them grew mold within the week. Outside of floods, the everyday cause here is the canals: a car parked dockside in Las Olas Isles or Rio Vista sits in humidity that never drops, the AC drain clogs with black-olive litter, and the cabin never fully dries. We kill the colony, extract the residue, dry the car properly and document what let the water in.

The Service

What car mold removal actually involves

Mold in a car is not a stain. It is a living colony rooted in seat foam, carpet padding, headliner fabric and the evaporator core of the air conditioner, and it releases spores every time the blower runs. Wiping the visible fuzz off the seats removes the symptom for a week. Removal means killing the colony, extracting the residue and drying the cabin so it cannot restart.

In Fort Lauderdale the service runs as a full biological decontamination: contents out, HEPA vacuum, 212°F steam on every hard and soft surface, Koch Chemie antimicrobial treatment, heated extraction of seats and carpet, HVAC vent treatment, and a forced-dry before we hand the car back. We also identify what let the water in, because mold always has a source.

The protocol

8 steps. Every mold job.

The same sequence on a dock in Las Olas Isles, a Coral Ridge driveway or in our Doral studio for flood cars.

01
Inspection
We find the source first: AC drain, door seal, sunroof channel, a window left open, or a car that simply sat. Photos and a moisture reading.
02
Contents & HEPA
Everything out, mats out, then a HEPA vacuum on every surface so spores are captured, not scattered into the cabin air.
03
Steam 212°F
Dry steam on dashboard, panels, seat surfaces, belts, headliner and vents. Heat kills mold without chemical residue.
04
Antimicrobial
Koch Chemie antimicrobial applied to fabric, foam and carpet and left to dwell. This is what stops the regrowth.
05
Heated extraction
Seats and carpet shampooed and extracted with heated water, pulling dead colony and residue out of the foam.
06
HVAC treatment
Vents and blower housing treated; cabin filter checked. If the evaporator is the source, we say so and quote the add-on.
07
Forced dry
Air movers and, if needed, a dehumidifier until the moisture reading is back to normal. A damp cabin restarts the problem.
08
Verification
Visual and smell check, photos, and a written note of the water source so it does not happen again.
Fort Lauderdale · Why mold grows here

Why Fort Lauderdale cabins never fully dry.

April 2023 and every flood since

The storm of April 12, 2023 dropped more than 25 inches on parts of Fort Lauderdale and flooded Edgewood, River Oaks, Melrose Park, Riverland and the neighborhoods around the airport. Cars that took water past the sills grew mold in days, and many that were 'dried out' by an owner with a shop vac came back to us months later with mold under the carpet padding that never dried. Since then the city floods somewhere every summer. Flood cars need the padding out, not vacuumed: it holds water like a sponge and there is no way to dry it in place.

Dockside cars and canal humidity

Las Olas Isles, Seven Isles, Rio Vista, Sunrise Key and Coral Ridge back onto canals, and a car parked by the seawall lives in humidity that does not drop overnight the way it does inland. Add windows up for a week and the cabin reaches dew point. The first sign is a white bloom on seat belts and dark leather; by then it is in the foam. We dry these cabins with air movers and, when the reading is high, a dehumidifier, because a treatment without drying restarts the week you go back to the boat.

Black olive litter in the AC drain

Victoria Park, Poinsettia Heights, Lauderdale Beach and Colee Hammock park under black olive trees, and the fine leaf and fruit litter blows into the cowl and down the AC drain. Once the drain is blocked, condensation backs up under the passenger carpet and stays there. The smell when you start the AC is the tell. We clear the drain, extract the carpet and padding and treat the evaporator; if the core is colonized we quote the HVAC deep add-on first.

Boat-season cars and the summer sit

A lot of Fort Lauderdale cars are seasonal. They sit from May to October in a garage in Harbor Beach or Bay Colony while the owner is north, or they sit dockside while the owner is on the boat for a month. A sealed car in a Fort Lauderdale summer grows mold reliably. We do a lot of October treatments for exactly this. A moisture absorber on the floor and a window cracked a finger prevents most of it; a pre-storage treatment prevents the rest.

Port, airport and the industrial south

Cars in Harbordale, Croissant Park, Edgewood and around the airport collect iron and hydrocarbon fallout on the outside and, less obviously, in the cabin filter and the drain tube. A clogged cabin filter reduces airflow across the evaporator, keeps it wet longer and feeds the colony. Replacing the filter is part of the HVAC treatment on every job in these neighborhoods.

What we will not do

We will not wipe the visible mold, spray a fragrance and hand the car back. That version lasts a week and puts spores back in your face the next time the blower runs. Every job here includes HEPA capture, steam, antimicrobial dwell, extraction, HVAC treatment and a forced-dry with a moisture reading. If your car needs less than that, it does not have a mold problem and we will tell you so.

Harbordale & Croissant ParkPort and airport fallout. Cabin filter and drain always part of the job here.
Plantation & DavieWestward, garaged cars that sat. Standard treatment; odor add-on if the smell is months old.

Keeping it out

Keeping Fort Lauderdale cars mold-free

Mold follows moisture. This is the routine we hand every Fort Lauderdale client.

Before the summer sitPrep the carWindows cracked a finger, a moisture absorber on the floor, cabin filter fresh. Or book a pre-storage treatment in May.
Rainy seasonCheck the passenger floorAfter a big storm press the carpet under the mat. Damp means the drain or a seal; call before it smells.
After a floodSame dayIf water crossed the sills, do not vacuum and wait. Padding holds water; mold starts in three days. Call us that day.
Every 6 monthsDrain & filterAC drain flushed and cabin filter replaced. Black-olive litter clogs drains faster than the manual assumes.

FAQ

Fort Lauderdale questions, answered.

How much does car mold removal cost in Fort Lauderdale?
$450 flat for a standard cabin with visible mold, travel included anywhere in Fort Lauderdale. Flood or water intrusion adds from $150 (padding extraction, extended drying) and a colonized AC evaporator or persistent odor adds from $95. Both are quoted after inspection and before work.
My car flooded in the April storm and was vacuumed out. Why does it still smell?
Because the carpet padding never dried. It holds water like a sponge and cannot be dried in place. We lift the carpet, extract or replace the padding, treat everything under it and run a dehumidifier until the moisture reading is normal.
Can you treat the car on my dock in Las Olas Isles?
Yes. We set up on the driveway side, run the treatment and the forced-dry before the evening humidity comes off the canal. We bring power and air movers. If the reading stays high we recommend the car spend a night in the garage with a dehumidifier or in our studio.
The AC smells musty but the seats look fine. Mold?
Yes, in the drain line or the evaporator. In Fort Lauderdale it is usually black-olive litter blocking the drain. We clear it, extract the wet carpet under the passenger side and treat the evaporator; the HVAC deep add-on covers a colonized core and a new cabin filter.
I am away all summer. Can you prevent it?
Yes. A pre-storage treatment in May plus windows cracked and a moisture absorber prevents most cases. If you skipped it, book a treatment for the week you return; October is our busiest month here for exactly this reason.
Is it safe to drive with mold in the car?
Not really. Spores come from the vents at face height, and children and anyone with asthma react first. AC off and windows down until it is treated.
Will it come back?
Not if the water source is fixed. We find it on every job, a drain, a seal, a sunroof channel or a flood, and write it on your report.
How long does it take?
Four to six hours on site including the dry cycle. Flood cars go to the Doral studio overnight.
Do you get into Harbor Beach or Bay Colony?
Yes. $2,000,000 liability certificate and vendor paperwork prepared before the appointment. Send the resident contact when you book.
Do you use ozone?
Only when an odor remains after the biological treatment, never instead of it. Ozone does nothing for the colony in the foam.
